DETROIT, Mich. — The Detroit Tigers made their 2027 coaching hires under manager A.J. Hinch official on Friday and named new leaders for the club’s medical department after a 76-86 season with no trip to the playoffs.

Kyle Hudson joins the staff to coach first base and baserunning. He comes over from the Boston Red Sox, where he was coaching third base, and he spent 2020 through 2022 as an assistant with the Cleveland Guardians. He takes the spot held by Anthony Sanders.

Martin Maldonado, a catcher for 15 big league seasons who played for Hinch in Houston, is the new quality control coach. Billy Boyer, who held that title last season and moved to third base coach during 2026, gives it up.

Ryan Sienko keeps working with the catchers and now adds bullpen coach to his duties, filling the opening left when Juan Nieves departed. That leaves pitching coach Chris Fetter and assistant Robin Lund to handle the pitchers.

The medical side got the biggest shake-up. Scott Peters is the new medical director after 11 seasons with Toronto, and Jeremiah Randall becomes head athletic trainer and physical therapist after leading the Houston training room from 2016 through 2025. They replace Ryne Eubanks and Chris McDonald.

Jay Sartori also returns to the front office as vice president of baseball operations.
