DETROIT, Mich. — Coach Dan Campbell said Monday in Allen Park that return specialist Tom Kennedy’s 2026 season is over after a knee injury that needs an operation.
Kennedy went down on a punt return of about 11 yards in the second quarter of Sunday’s win at Arizona. He stayed on the turf, walked off, was carted inside and left the stadium on crutches.
Coverage described a serious MCL sprain. Before the injury Kennedy had seven fair catches, 79 yards on six punt returns and a 24.8-yard average on nine kickoff returns.
Amon-Ra St. Brown took over punt duties after Kennedy left — three fair catches and two returns for 36 yards. Campbell would rather not keep St. Brown on punts full time. Options include practice-squad receiver Dominic Lovett, and general manager Brad Holmes’ staff is scanning outside help during the Week 6 bye.
Also Sunday, linebacker Devin White suffered a broken forearm in the opening quarter and needs surgery. Campbell expects him back eventually after a long recovery. White has logged 67 defensive snaps this year.
