DETROIT, Mich. — After radio voice Dan Miller’s wife, Cynthia “Cindy” Miller, died, Lions coach Dan Campbell opened his postgame news conference by dedicating a game ball to him.
Cindy Miller died Saturday, Oct. 10, at 63 after a battle with cancer, according to a funeral-home obituary. The couple had shared 33 years of marriage. Miller, the Lions’ voice for more than two decades, stayed home and did not call Sunday’s Cardinals game in Glendale, Ariz.
After the road win Campbell held up a football and said it was for Dan Miller and his family. He called Miller salt of the earth, said he was glad Cindy was at peace, and added that the team loves Dan.
Jared Goff also offered condolences afterward, saying the team was thinking about Dan, that his voice is Lions football, and that Miller is part of the Lions family. Goff said he talks with Miller weekly.
Tigers announcer Jason Benetti handled the radio booth in Miller’s place. Benetti said thoughts were with Dan after Cindy’s death and called Miller among the most sincere people he has met in Detroit — and a standout Lions voice for more than two decades.
