Montreal, Quebec — Zachary Bolduc scored in the sixth round of the shootout as the Montreal Canadiens beat the Detroit Red Wings 1-0 at Bell Centre on Saturday.

Jacob Fowler stopped 30 shots for his second NHL shutout. Daniil Tarasov also made 30 saves in his first start for Detroit, which left town at 1-3-1 after a back-to-back.

Bolduc beat Tarasov five-hole for the lone shootout goal, and Fowler denied Nate Danielson to end Detroit’s sixth straight attempt after regulation and overtime stayed scoreless.

Coach Todd McLellan called it a gutsy effort on night two of a back-to-back after a 6-3 loss to Seattle on Friday, saying the team had to weather an early storm before playing even.

Montreal had three apparent goals waved off, including an overtime marker from Alexandre Texier for offside. Andrew Copp was turned aside on a third-period breakaway for Detroit.

The Canadiens moved to 2-2-1 and snapped a three-game skid in front of a loud Bell Centre crowd that also chanted for Red Wings captain Dylan Larkin.
