Washington, D.C. — The Detroit Pistons erased a 20-point first-quarter hole but fell 114-108 in overtime to the Washington Wizards on Saturday night at Capital One Arena in their second preseason game.
Washington led 40-20 after one, shooting 60.9% from the field. Detroit answered with a 30-16 second quarter and held a 94-87 lead with about five minutes left in regulation before turnovers let the Wizards back in.
Isaac Jones tied it with a reverse dunk with 11 seconds left in the fourth, and John Ukomadu helped force overtime. Paul Reed had 11 points and nine rebounds before fouling out. Tolu Smith scored six with 13 boards, eight of them offensive.
Daniss Jenkins and Trae Young were both ejected after a third-quarter confrontation. Coach J.B. Bickerstaff said preseason is about giving two-way and fringe players a chance to earn minutes.
Cade Cunningham and Jalen Duren sat out. The Pistons’ next exhibition continues the tune-up schedule before the regular season.
