Glendale, Ariz. — The Detroit Lions faced the Arizona Cardinals at State Farm Stadium in Week 5 with Cardinals wideout Marvin Harrison Jr. listed inactive while a trade was reported to be close.
Arizona coaches planned to keep Harrison Jr. out against Detroit as the club worked to finish a deal for the former first-round pick, thinning the Cardinals’ top receiving threat.
Without him, Arizona’s top pass-catchers include tight end Trey McBride and receivers Michael Wilson and Kendrick Bourne, according to pregame notes around the Lions’ desert trip.
Detroit came in 2-2 seeking a road win after averaging 29.8 points and 389.3 yards a game — numbers that still left Dan Campbell wanting a faster offensive start.
Jared Goff ranked second in the NFL with 1,214 passing yards through four games, with nine touchdowns, a 108.6 rating and no interceptions. Tight end Sam LaPorta sat among league leaders with 22 catches.
Detroit also elevated veteran safety Jalen Mills from the practice squad for a final elevation as the secondary managed absences and chased steadier pass defense in Glendale.
